I agree with Jim about the limited success of repositories. Faculty must not find an economy in LO re-use.

Perhaps the economy that must be found is at another point in the institution - say the LMS costs. What are the opportunities and constraints in substituting free Web 2.0 tools for traditional LMS?

Good luck with the idea of a repository. Many groups have tried this, MERLOT being the most obvious. My sense is most faculty still build their own content for a variety of reasons to long to discuss here. Do you see this changing anytime soon?

I started a discussion board called State Wide Repository.

One huge time and money saver is to share items that are common across institutions.

Twigg has been promoting the reuse of objects in her large classrooms for a long time.

What separates learning objects from the large classrooms are

1. Often we do not know who did the LO
2. Many LOs are very specific
3. Large Classrooms are often created by a group and therefore lends creditability
4. Large classrooms are often unwieldy to break up

However, the ability to choose modules that have been certified and tagged with a series of modifiers allows the instructor a breadth options.
