I am a sometimes Twitter user (prefer FriendFeed's less restrictive text box). And I am continually surprised at the amount of "professional" contacts I am making in Facebook - probably more than on LinkedIn - but, I am on all of them!

Do you have professional and personal Twitter (and other sites) accounts? I gave up on that because it was becoming tiresome to check them all, but it would be nice to have space between them.

Okay, I am not a geek, but I do maintain 39 separate site accounts including work and personal email. Scary, isn't it?

Re Multiple Twitter accounts:

Ken, I use HootSuite to manage three accounts. One account is me: @carrie_at_umass. Another is my department account @MedicineUMMS (I work at a med school). and the other is a training account: @SocialMediaUMMS which I will use for a social media training series starting in Nov.

HootSuite is online - I have all 3 accts set up and I can access them in one place, anywhere, on a PC or Mac. I can track stats, click thru's and schedule tweets. It is fun and interesting to watch the stats, to see what types of links people click on. I can also set up search columns to track specific hashtags or terms. I can build columns to export to other webpages (see www.umassmed.edu/medicine/index.aspx). I tried TweetDeck for a few months, and although I like their slick UI, HootSuite has more functions that are useful for me.

I am also on LinkedIn: look for carrie saarinen or search carrie.saarinen@umassmed.edu
